Saint Mark of Ephesus Orthodox Cathedral Greek School

Boston, Massachusetts

St. Mark of Ephesus Orthodox Cathedral Greek School was established in 1975 in order to teach our parish’s children the Orthodox Christian Faith via the vehicles of the Greek language and heritage. The school operates classes from kindergarten through sixth grade every Saturday from 10:00 to 1:00 p.m., and the academic year consists of thirty lessons, starting from September to the end of May. Orthodox Christian religious Feasts and Saints and Greek history, geography, and culture are the basis and context for teaching students to read, write, and speak conversational Greek, with the specific material, vocabulary, and grammar appropriate to each grade level.

An Ancient Greek language class is also available to high school students so they may learn Classical and Patristic Greek and be able to read and understand the New Testament, the lives of Saints, the writings of the Holy Fathers of the Church, and the Church’s hymnology in the original language.

Every year, the school presents a Greek Independence Day program which has become a tradition and is attended by the whole parish and the local community. A presentation concerning the Holy Annunciation and Greek patriotic poems, songs, and skits, as well, are performed by the students dressed in the cassock of the Orthodox clergy and Greek costumes and the ethnic colors of blue and white.

The school is open to all children in the Boston area who are in the appropriate grade levels and are interested in learning the Orthodox Christian Faith and the Greek language and heritage.
